"It's Just Like Three-Card Monte"

One "adering" offers up a terrific comment on Roberts's nomination, over at Daily Kos.
Bait-and-switch, three-card monte, "Look, there's the Virgin Mary! Behind you!" It's all the same gimmick.

Roberts might be a ringer, but Rehnquist is almost certainly not going to make it to 2008. If he does, it will be astonishing. Bush has got to be thinking about his second pick already. The Democrats have got to be thinking about that too.

Seriously, does anyone really think this "stem cells are evil, Jesus told me to vote this way, evolution is bunk, homosexuals are converting straights (even though the straights are the ones running the re-education camps)" crowd is going to make in much past the beginning of the 21st century? It's economically unviable is a world that's this interconnected to fight over whether evolution is real. While you're screaming down in Florida about how Jesus told you to save Terri Schiavo, some people in India and China are rendering your meaningless job even more redundant.
And, because I prefer optimism over fatalism, I especially like his conclusions (which are worth reading on your own).
