Advent Ponderings
Atrios guest blogger Robert M. Jeffers yesterday posted a brief meditation on the subject of Advent (the month-long portion of the Christian calendar immediately preceding Christmas). I don't think you have to be a Christian (practicing, lapsed, or otherwise) to appreciate the piece's thoughtful tone.
Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, you might want to seek out Jeffers's other postings at the Atrios site. His first was on Friday, 2004-11-26. His take on matters liberal tends to be questioning, philosophic, even outright theological, rather than overtly political. You don't often find bloggers at popular political sites citing John Updike, John Dewey, and Reinhold Niebuhr; yet you don't have to "know" such source material to appreciate what Jeffers does with it.
